800.00

The Stranger Beauty Amaryllis is a striking, large-flowered bulb that produces tall, sturdy stems (scapes) bearing multiple, trumpet-shaped blooms. Known for its dramatic, vibrant, and often bi-color or intense solid-colored petals, this variety is highly popular for indoor winter decorating and as a gift during the holiday season.

The Stranger Beauty amaryllis is a striking variety of the Hippeastrum genus, prized for its unique, almost exotic flower form that sets it apart from traditional trumpet-shaped varieties.
Appearance
  • Petal Shape: Unlike standard amaryllis with broad, overlapping petals, “Stranger Beauty” often features narrow, elegantly reflexed petals, sometimes categorized within the Cybister or “spider” amaryllis groups.
  • Colour: It typically displays a deep, rich red or mahogany hue, often with subtle green or lighter-coloured highlights at the throat or along the petal midribs.
  • Size: Each bulb usually produces 2–3 stems, with each stem bearing 4–6 flowers roughly 4–6 inches in diameter.
Growing & Care
  • Planting: Plant the bulb in well-draining soil with the top third exposed above the surface. Use a sturdy pot as the tall flower stalks can become top-heavy.
  • Light & Temperature: It thrives in bright, indirect sunlight at room temperature (around 20°C or 68°F).
  • Watering: Water sparingly until the green bud or stalk appears. Once growing, keep the soil moist but never soggy to prevent bulb rot.
  • Bloom Time: Expect flowers within 6 to 10 weeks of planting. To help the stalk grow straight, rotate the pot a quarter-turn every day toward the light source.
Symbolism
The name amaryllis comes from the Greek amarysso, meaning “to sparkle”. In the language of flowers, it represents strength, pride, and determination, largely because of its ability to produce bold blooms during the dark winter months.
